PLUC – Ten Years On

Next month is PLUC’s tenth birthday.

Founder, Simon, is doing us a blast from the past by digging out the original songbooks used for those early sessions. And to contrast with that, the current regulars have voted on their favourite & least favourite numbers of the one hundred & nine tunes we now play, so we will be announcing our latest PLUC Top Ten Tunes & slotting them in too on the night.

If you’re an ex-member who would like to attend the celebratory evening, do get in touch to learn more details & book a place.

Congratulations. Just bought a uke so am getting a feel of the fun. Wish you well for the next decade.

Kat – Thanks for that. You’re one of our longest-standing followers, since Jun 2012 when I first took over running the site! I joined PLUC in Nov 2011 & had only just started playing back then.

Peter – Thanks a lot. Good luck with the uke, it’s a great instrument to play. If you’ve not done so already, check out https://lewishamukulele.wordpress.com/2012/08/19/pluc-tales-its-been-a-year/ ; search for playing tips using the ‘Search All PLUC’ tool & just have a general look round, as we’ve put lots of resources on here, especially for beginners.

Fraternal greetings from the People’s Republic of TUSC in Somerset. We’re celebrating our 12th anniversary next month – and we’re still singing some of the songs that you started with! Lang may your collective lums reek!

      Thanks a lot Tony.

I didn’t join until 2011 but I’ve been told these were the numbers from you in those first few sessions:
Five Foot Two Eyes of Blue (TUSC)
      Amarillo (TUSC)
      That’s Amore (TUSC)
      I’m A Believer (TUSC)
      You Are My Sunshine (TUSC)

It’s nice to think your assistance helped get us started. And many congrats on your twelfth anniversary next month! Happy strumming.

We be slow to change down ‘ere in Zummerzet.

5’2″ – we play as the first number at EVERY meet and gig
        Amarillo – occasionally gigged
That’s Amore – only when very, very drunk
I’m a Believer – regularly at club and gigs
Sunshine – when a film-maker doesn’t want to pay copyright royalties!

We’ve now got about 600 more songs now, but these still get an airing.

        Cheers!

That’s brilliant. I went to a uke festival a couple of years ago where four acts in a row did Five Foot Two – they had nothing else to fall back on when the others played it, so carried on regardless with very similar sets (most also included Ain’t She Sweet & I’ll See You In My Dreams, too)! At least you have a really decent number of tunes to pick from if that ever happened to you.

    All the best.

At a uke festival “Club Showcase” last year, the other 10 clubs delivered their well-rehearsed three songs. We went up on stage with 42 bits of paper in a hat. It wasn’t a competition, of course (but we creamed it!). Variety is the spice…

Oh, most definitely. So much more fun that thrashing out the same few tracks each time. You take care & here’s to your next twelve years – I expect you to have at least 1,500 numbers by then!

Thanks, Jeanette. If I’m ever down Lewisham way…

Oh, and say Hi to Rufus for me.
